  • Defensive Driving – Tractor-Trailer (Available in both English and French)
    An overview of tractor-trailer defensive driving practices, outlining the conditions that affect every driving situation, the factors contributing to collisions, and the fundamental rules of defensive driving. Topics include speed and space management, intersections, turning, lane changes, backing up, and dealing with adverse conditions.

  • Winter Driving
    A look at the principles of defensive driving, specifically as applied to safe operation in winter weather. Topics discuss equipment preparation and maintenance, identifying and adjusting for adverse winter conditions, handling emergency situations, and additional precautions for mountain driving.
  • HOS & Logbooks (Canada) (Available in both English and French)
    An outline of the regulations for Hours of Service in Canada, along with a detailed examination of the correct procedure for filling out daily logs, including sleeper berth and other exceptions. The importance of pre-trip planning and inspection is also discussed.

  • HOS & Logbooks (Canada & U.S.) (Available in both English and French)
    An outline of the regulations for Hours of Service in Canada and the U.S., along with a detailed examination of the correct procedure for filling out daily logs, including sleeper berth and other exceptions. Examples for both Canada and the United States are used throughout the course, along with comparison charts to highlight the differences between the two countries. The importance of pre-trip planning and inspection is also discussed.
  • Practical Vehicle Inspection
    Based on Techni-Com's Practical Vehicle Inspection handbook, this course teaches drivers how to apply the rules, complete inspection reports and report defects in compliance with the National Safety Code, Standard 13. It utilizes the Ontario Trucking Association's versions of Schedule 1 and Vehicle Inspection Reports.
  • Practical Cargo Securement
    Based on Techni-Com's Practical Cargo Securement handbook, this course provides an introduction to the North American Cargo Securement Standards, including the importance of cargo securement, the primary components of a cargo securement system, and the correct use of each component.
  • Transportation of Dangerous Goods (Available in both English and French)
    This course provides drivers with the necessary skills to find and apply required information in the TDG Clear Language Regulations. Specific topics address identifying dangerous goods, locating information in Schedules 1, 2, and 3, determining the accuracy of shipping documents, determining whether different goods can be transported together, choosing the proper safety marks, identifying safe handling and loading procedures, and locating information in the ERG. Upon completion, participants will be certified to handle, transport, and offer DG for transport.
  • WHMIS (Available in both English and French)
    An overview of the Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System, specifically for transportation industry workers. Topics include employee rights & responsibilities, the six classes of hazardous materials, supplier labels, workplace labels, Material Safety Data Sheets, and biohazard exposure. A comparison of WHMIS and TDG is also included, highlighting how the two standards work together.
  • Lift Truck Operator Skills (Available in both English and French)
    An overview of safe practices for lift truck operation, as outlined in CSA Standard B335-94. A discussion of requirements for safe operation in different situations is supplemented with a look at lift truck regulations, common hazards, descriptions of lift truck components and maintenance requirements.

  • CSA for Drivers (Available in both English and French)
    An introduction to FMCSA's Compliance, Safety, Accountability program, explaining the program background, Operational Model, the 6 BASICs and Crash Indicator, weighting, and interventions. The Safety Fitness Determination and Pre-Employment Screening program are also discussed.
  • Maximizing Your Fuel (Available in both English and French)
    This course provides a foundation for fuel efficient driving, outlining the factors that influence fuel efficiency (both in and out of a driver's control) and driving habits that maximize efficiency. Online learning content is equivalent to one half-day classroom course. Course concludes with a knowledge exam to validate learning.
  • Owner-Operators: Managing Your Business
    Produced in partnership with ATBS Canada, and based on ATBS Canada's Owner Operator Business Manual, this course explains fundamental business concepts as they apply to Owner-Operators. Topics include fixed and variable costs, vehicle leasing vs. purchase, time management, operating and reserve accounts, and considerations when signing with a carrier.
  • The Road to Wellness (Available in both English and French)
    Produced in partnership with Trans Canada Chiropractic, this course focuses on the cornerstones of a healthy lifestyle – sleep, diet, and exercise. Topics discuss fatigue, sleep apnea, nutrition, weight management, illness and injury prevention, specifically as they relate to truck drivers. Examples of simple exercise routines designed for the road are also included. The individual topics of this course are also available in standalone format.

Testing, Tracking, and Certificates

In addition to outstanding instructional content, À La Carte courses also track all activities and validate learning with comprehensive final tests in each module.

Once drivers have finished their assigned courses, you can easily print wallet cards, certificates, and complete training histories for their driver files.
