This course provides an overview of the basic cargo securement principles covered by the North American Cargo Securement Standard for a cargo van, based on Techni-Com’s Practical Cargo Securement manual. After completion, participants will be able to:
- Explain the Performance Criteria used in the North American Cargo Securement Standard
- Describe the cargo securement features located on the vehicle
- Explain the importance of cargo packaging and how to secure cargo before loading
- Explain how to secure cargo against forward and sideways movement
- Describe basic methods of securing round articles, vehicle equipment, and receptacles and bins
- Explain how to use cargo cube weight and grouping to secure cargo
- Describe the equipment used to secure cargo within a van
- Explain how to properly inspect your cargo securement system
