This course provides an overview of the basic cargo securement principles covered by the North American Cargo Securement Standard for a flatbed trailer, based on Techni-Com’s Practical Cargo Securement manual. After completion, participants will be able to:
- Describe the Performance Criteria used in the North American Cargo Securement Standard
- Describe the cargo securement features located on the vehicle
- Explain the importance of cargo packaging and how to secure cargo before loading
- Explain how to secure cargo against forward and sideways movement
- Describe basic methods of securing round articles, vehicle equipment, and receptacles and bins
- Explain how to use tiedowns to secure cargo
- Explain how to calculate the aggregate working load limit for a load
- Explain the inspection procedures you need to follow to be compliant with the regulations
